Maxwell "Max"[2] Sterling, often simply called Agent Sterling, works as an agent at the Superintelligence Agency.[1] He often uses questionable and unpredictable methods in his investigations[3] and interrogations,[2] often leading to him disclosing intelligence that is above the clearance levels of other characters, leading to him having to have them murdered on the spot, with a calculated, cold attitude towards it.[1][2] Sterling is portrayed by Josh Truax in Dynamo and Dynamo Dream.[1]

Maxwell Sterling is one of the most prominent characters of Dynamo and Dynamo Dream, and might be considered a main character, having entire episodes focusing on him and his point-of-view. It is also insinuated in Dream that he was heavilt involved in whatever happened with Rubix in Dynamo, including the not-yet-released episodes. It has been stated that Sterling's story arc will feature prominently in Dynamo Dream going forward.

Biography[]

Something bad happened with him in his youth training. He is widely regarded as the best of the best in the Agency, and was the top of his class while in training. Additionally, Sterling has a dark secret that he keeps hidden.

Dynamo[]

Episode 1[]

Sterling met a group of investigators in the Dustlands who were looking at what seemed like a crater created by a from a meteorite. He explained to Peter Jefferson that the crater was actually a sign of Axle Rubix independently drifting to Exemplar State. Upon realizing that none of the local detectives are of a high enough clearance to know about this, he apologizes to Jefferson before letting the Red Eyes slaughter the entire investigation team.

Episode 3[]

Upon returning to Shade, Sterling was confronted by his superior, William Fender, for killing the investigators over what was effectively his own mistake. After their argument Sterling drifted to Shadow State Two where he used a bar's display system to put out a bounty on Axle Rubix.

Dynamo Dream[]

Episode 2: A Single Point in Space[]

Physical appearance[]

Maxwell Sterling has white skin, dark brown or black hair, green-hazel eyes and often wear a black suit with a white shirt and black tie while on business for the Superintelligence Agency. When he gets upset and angered, he has a tendency to get a twitching in his jaw.

Personality[]

Sterling seems to be mentally unhinged. He seems to have a problem with vanity, needing to strongly reassure himself of his abilities especially when he is reminded of his shortcomings or past failings. He seems to be apathetic about the consequences of his actions, whether or not they are morally wrong, such as causing the death of several people whose deaths were made necessary by his own errors or slip-ups.

Abilities[]

Sterling is capable of directing the Red Eyes. It's unclear how far this control goes; he uses a button to signal the Red Eyes to attack the detectives in Dustlands Restoration Region 134_A and later seemingly has the eyes show themselves to intimidate a bartender in Shadow State Two. The button is also able to work as an EMP, disabling all electronics in an area, which is handy when people need to be murdered by the Red Eyes, as shading the scene of the crime in darkness makes it harder for people to know the truth of his actions. It also makes it harder for the victims to orient themselves.
