Superintelligence Sublevel 85

A central Superintelligence building.

The Superintelligence Agency[1] (SIA /ˈsi.aː/[2]) is a large investigative organization based out of the city of Shade.[1]

History[]

Little is known of Superintelligence's actual founding, but their primary role seems to be investigating matters related to dimensional travel and anomalies. Agent Sterling hunts for the rogue drifter and fugitive Axle Rubix while Agent Carmen is seen investigating an anomaly that appears as various parts of a kitchen levitating off the ground which she names Chuck.

Clearance Level[]

Within the hierarchy of Superintelligence there are different levels at which an agent can be that allow them to access certain information about the inner workings of the organization as well as the actual world outside of it. The agency has very strict rules around information, and the way they deal with it shows that Shade is ultimately ruled by a totalitarian government. The rules state that people who are not at the level required to know a bit of specific information are not even allowed to think about this information, which would mean that the agency is attempting to be a thought police and control people's minds. People, even agents, who gain intel they are not at the level of clearance to know about, might be hunted down by another agent and eliminated. According to Agent Sterling's rules, this pertains to "learning classified intel ten levels above your own". It is unknown if this is the hard and fast version of the clearance level rule.

Known Clearance Levels[]

  • Level 11: The clearance level of Peter Jefferson. As he seems surprised when he realizes Sterling is Superintelligence, it can be inferred that this clearance level ranks below Superintelligence status and is used for more local police forces.
  • Level 27: Sterling assumes Jefferson is at level 27 clearance when he tells him his theory that the crater was caused by someone drifting from Shadow State 5. Presumably this is a level at which an agent has been permitted to learn about drifting, Shadow States, and Axle Rubix.
  • Level 89: William Fender's clearance level. The specifics are unclear, but given his authority within Superintelligence it's likely reserved for the higher-ups within the organization.

Locations[]

What is apparently a central Superintelligence building is seen as a very large and plain structure surrounded by a large field of concrete and a grid of lamps. This is only actually the top of the complex as it extends to at least 85 sublevels. It's unclear if this is the Superintelligence headquarters or just the entry point to the forensics department.

Superintelligence Agency also utilize the centrally located Shade Tower to fly from and park their police choppers. As the founder of the city of Shade, Les North, seemingly dwells and/or works from the top tier of Shade Tower, it is possible that the Superintelligence Agency is a government-run secret police.

Equipment[]

While the equipment of each individual agent appears to be somewhat personalized, both field agents seen have the same model of police chopper to use for personal transportation.

Superintelligence Transport Craft

Carmen's police chopper.

Sterling has a small button he uses to signal the Red Eyes to attack but it's unknown if this commands the Red Eyes or simply darkens its surroundings to allow them to manifest.

Carmen uses a pair of sunglasses equipped with video recording capabilities when investigating Chuck.[3]

Agents[]

Special agents of the Superintelligence Agency are given code numbers, such is the case with Carmen, Superintelligence Agent 2444.[3]
